.

S:ewardship Partners Work
Plan for 2002 - 2003

.

Cherry Creek Stewardship Partners. A Watershed Approach

1. Clearing House for Watershed Activities and Preliminary Watershed Assessment
Coordination

Partners would serve as the host for a task force comprised of representatives of all ofthe land use
jurisdictions and resource management agencies to coordinate on watershed activities and
assessments at a reconnaissance level, in the Cherry Creek stream corridor. The objective is to
coordinate with existing efforts that are focusing on specific assessment activities that relate to
particular mandates. Current efforts include the Cherry Creek Basin Water Quality Authority (the
Authority) 2003 Watershed Plan, the UDFCD Cherry Creek Corridor Master Planning project, the
Trust for Public Land Great Outdoor Colorado Legacy Planning Project, and others. Through this
coordination process, the Partners would work to ensure cross-agency coordination for best
possible information collection and utilization. The Partners would work to get that information
out to the greatest number of stakeholders. Efforts on establishing a baseline characterization of
the stream corridor, compiling and integrating existing data sources, and developing a GIS
coverage for more detailed evaluation of specific sites will be ongoing. The Partners could apply
for grant and foundation funding to complete the work.

2. Annnal Watershed Conference/Periodic Forums

.

Partners will continue to spearhead the organization and execution of an annual conference. This
includes organizing and putting on the fall 2002 and 2003 conferences. In addition, Partners will
host periodic forums focused on specific topics of special interest. The subject matter, nature, and
occurrence of the forums would be dictated by circumstances. Regular meetings of Partners also
would provide an opportunity for exchange of information among participants. Partners proposes
to host a Watershed and Development Roundtable addressing the safe drinking water Source Water
Assessment process. The goal will be to bring together the many drinking water providers in the
basin to coordinate on the contaminant inventory and risk assessment phases. In addition, the
Partners will host a Smart Growth Forum and a Noxious Weed Stewardship Forum in 2003.

.
