<br />- <br /> <br />This soil survey is a Juolication of the National Cooperative SOil Survey, a <br />joint effort of the United States Department of Agriculture and other federal <br />agencies, state agencies including the Agricultural Experiment Stations, and <br />local agel1cies. The Soil Conservation Service has leadership for the federal <br />part of the National Cooperative Soil Survey. In line with Department of <br />Agriculture policies, benefits of this program are available to all, regardless of <br />race, color, national ori;Jin, sex, religion, marital status, or age. <br />Major fieldwork for t~ is soil survey was performed in the period t 969-79. Soil <br />names and descriptions were approved in 1980. Unless otherwise indicated, <br />statements in this publi:ation refer to conditions in the survey area in 197~1. <br />This survey was made Go'operatively by the Soil Conservation Service and the <br />Colorado Agricultural E:<p'3riment Station. It is part of the technical assistance <br />furnished to the Upper HLerfano Soil Conservation District. <br />Soil maps In this survey may be copied without permission. Enlargement of <br />these maps. however, could cause misunderstanding of the detail of mapping. <br />If enlarged, maps do not show the small areas of contrasting soils that could <br />have been shown at a lariJer scale. <br />Cover: Wheat-fallow strips on Noden sandy loam, t to 8 percent slopes. <br />Strips are perpendicular to the prevailing winds to reduce soil blowing and to <br />conserve moisture.. <br /> <br />ii <br />
