ISO provides statistical, actuarial, underwriting, and claims information and analyses; <br />consulting and technical services; policy language; and information about specific locations for a <br />broad spectrum of commercial and personal lines of insurance. In the United States and around <br />the world, ISO serves more the 2,900 insurers and reinsures, as well as agents, brokers, self- <br />insurers, risk managers, insurance regulators and other government agencies. <br /> <br />The Building Code Effectiveness Grading Schedule was developed with the assistance of the <br />Institute of Building and Home Safety, The International conference of Building Officials, The <br />Southern Building Code Congress International, the Building Officials and Code Administrators <br />International, an insurers advisory board and ISO. Using initial information from over 1500 <br />building officials and pilot testing of 154 communities from the southeastern section of the <br />country. ISO began a five phase implementation period of The Building Code Effectiveness <br />Grading Schedule in 1995. Information is gathered through a combination of a questionnaire and <br />field interview. Building Code Effectiveness Grading Schedule (BCEGS) surveys are being <br />conducted by ISO in 44 states, additionally 5 States have independent rating bureaus, the rating <br />bureaus staff has been trained by ISO and are conducting surveys in those States bringing the <br />program to a totaJ of 49 States. <br /> <br />Once the questionnaire and the interview are completed ISO tallies points to arrive at a <br />classification for personal lines (PL) and commercial lines (CL) for each jurisdiction.
