<br />ROO-6 <br /> <br />Hamo Hayashi, Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University <br /> <br />Kyoto, Japan <br />Email: havashi(a)drs.dpri.kyoto-u.ac.jp <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />A Blueprint for Digital City for Disaster Reduction <br /> <br />In this paper, we would like to introduce a web site called "Digital City for Disaster <br />Reduction" as a product of Japan-US Collaborative research on natural disaster reduction. <br />Digital city concept has been successfully applied for electronic city guide of real cities <br />around the world, This digital city makes use of city metaphor as the key for organizing the <br />relevant information and basic knowledge of an academic field that is available on web. <br />We focused on the field of natural disaster reduction to organize the information and <br />knowledge of this discipline by making use of city metaphor, The information integration <br />using web technology proved to be successful and expanded disaster after disaster for the <br />last five years. We thought it is a time for the researchers and practitioners as well as the <br />general public and private business sector can share the basic understanding of the nature of <br />disasters and their countermeasures so that increase the both resistance and resilience of the . <br />community against natural disasters.
