<br />Although the reason for the underestimation of the n values is not <br /> <br />known, the magnitude of the effect that the errors in mean velocity had <br /> <br />on the data used to verify the n values suggests that the underestimation <br /> <br />of the low-flow n values is probably due to the assumption that the <br />velocity distribution is logarithmic. If the vertical-velocity dis- <br />tributions measured do represent the velocity distributions in all of <br />the subareas, then the measured velocities and discharges would be too <br />small, especially at low flows. The n-values computed using equation 9 <br />would subsequently be too high, thereby indicating equation 10 under- <br />estimates n at low flows. <br /> <br />/ <br /> <br />5'3 <br />
