<br />Price Model PAA meter currently being developed by the Survey. The Price <br />Model PAA meter incorporates a Lexan polycarbonate polymer, solid-cup bucket <br />wheel in place of the metal, open-cup bucket wheel common to the Price type AA <br />meter. Both current meters were equipped with a cat's whisker contact <br />chamber. <br /> <br />The hydrologic data in this report consists of point velocities obtained <br />using both the Price type AA and Model PAA current meters at 11 streamflow- <br />gaging stations in Colorado. Water-surface slope data and bed-material size <br />data for each station also is presented. A total of 887 point velocity meas- <br />urements were made with each current meter resulting in 94 velocity profiles <br />for each meter. <br /> <br />Site Selection <br /> <br />Eleven streamflow-gaging stations were selected to provide a variety of <br />flow conditions including water-surface slope, depth, and bed material. A <br />general description of the stream reach ~t each station and the assigned site <br />number are given in table 1. The location of the study area is shown in fig- <br />ure 1; the locations of the selected streamflow-gaging stations are shown in <br />figure 2. To provide a basis for comparison, stations with moderate slopes <br />of 0.001 (South Platte River) and 0.002 (Cache La Poudre River) were among <br />those selected for the study. Water-surface slopes ranged from 0.001 at the <br />South Platte River to 0.029 at Lake Creek. Observation depths ranged from <br />1.15 to 11.2 feet. Almost half of the velocity profiles were obtained in <br />depths of less than 2.5 feet. Nine profiles were obtained in depths greater <br />than 5.0 feet. Bed material ranged from sand to large boulders.
