<br />Location of crossing--Hore hydraulic problems were attributed to crossing <br /> <br />location at or near a bend (table 26, Brice and Blodgett, 1978) than to any <br /> <br />other bridge factor. The hazards of such a location are well known to bridge <br /> <br />engineers. Placement of a crossing at a bend may be due to a predetermined <br /> <br />roadway alignment or to lack of a more suitable site; or a bend may migrate <br /> <br />downstream to a crossing site that was originally placed on a straight reach. <br /> <br />The choice of specific countermeasures depends on factors such as sharpness of <br /> <br />the bend, stability of the banks, and availability of materials; but in <br /> <br />general, flow-control measures are more suitable for control of stream <br /> <br />alignment than are bank revetments. <br /> <br />Q <br />
