<br />. <br />. <br />. <br />. <br />. <br />. intense localized thunderstorms preceded by wet weather, The 1914 flood caused significant <br />. damage and killed one person, <br />. <br />. Previous Studies <br />, . The original Flood Insurance Study for San Miguel County was conducted in 1978, A county- <br />. wide study was first conducted in 1988, and then updated to the current study. The Town of <br />. Telluride PIS was also originally conducted in 1978, and then was incorporated into the 1988 <br />. county-wide PIS, The Norwood Flood Hazard Boundary Maps (FHBMs) which contain the <br />. SFHAs were developed in 1974. <br />. <br />. A summary of information available regarding floodplains in the county available from the <br />. CWCB is shown in the Appendix, <br />. <br />. Communitv Response to the CWCB Desil!nation and Approval Process <br />. A letter from the CWCB was transmitted to San Miguel County, the Town of Telluride and the <br />. Town of Sawpit regarding the Board's proposed action for designation and approval of the San <br />. Miguel County PIS, The county and Town of Telluride were receptive to the Board's proposed <br />. designation action, and sent official letters requesting that the CWCB designate and approve the <br />. floodplain information currently available to the community, The Town of Sawpit was <br />. conducted and were generally in agreement with the designation, However, an official letter had <br />. not been received at the time of this study, Copies of the request letters are included in the <br />. Appendix of this report, A memorandum explaining the Town of Sawpit discussion is also <br />. included in the Appendix, <br />. <br />. Two separate meetings were held with San Miguel County and the Town of Telluride on <br />. November 9, 2000, The purpose of the meetings was to explain the designation process, to <br />. review the FIRMs and to solicit comments regarding the maps and general flooding conditions in <br />. the town, Members of the planning department staff were present at the county meeting and the <br />. Town Engineer was present at the meeting with Telluride, A field tour of several San Miguel <br />. County floodplains was also conducted at this time, No contradictory evidence to the PIS was <br />. found during the field review, A phone meeting was held with the Town of Sawpit to discuss the <br />. designation.
