Zone B:

Areas between the Special Flood Hazard
Areas and the limits of the SOO-year
flood, including areas of the 500-year
flood plain that are protected from
the lOO-year flood by dike, levee,
or other water control structure; also
areas subject to certain types of 100-
year shallow flooding where depths
are less than 1.0 foot; and areas subject
to 100-year flooding from sources with
drainage areas less than I square mile.
Zone B is not subdivided.

zone c:

Areas of minimal flooding.

The flood elevation differences, FHFs, flood insurance zones,
and base flood elevations for each flooding source studied in
detail in the community are summarized in Table 3.

5.4 Flood Insurance Rate Map Description

The Flood Insurance Rate Map for Paonia is, for insurance purposes,
the principal result of the Flood Insurance Study. This map (pub-
lished separately) contains the official delineation of flood
insurance zones and base flood elevation lines. Base flood eleva-
tion lines show the locations of the expected whole-foot water-
surface elevations of the base (lOO-year) flood. This map is
developed in accordance with the latest flood insurance map prepara-
tion guidelines published by the Federal Emergency Management
Agency.

6.0 OTHER STUDIES

Several previous floodplain reports or maps are available for Minnesota
Creek and North Fork Gunnison River at Paonia4 Two such reports, the
Flood Hazard Information Maps and the Flood Hazard Boundary Maps (Refer-
ences 15 and 16, respectively), and the 197B U.S. Geological Survey
Flood Prone Quadrangle Maps (Reference 17) delineated approximate 100-
year floodplains for both Minnesota Creek and North Fork Gunnison River
through Paonia. Flood boundary delineations for this study supersede
the previously published maps.

The February 19BO Flood Hazard Information Report for North Fork Gunnison
River (Reference 12) developed flood elevations for the 10-, 50-, 100-,
and SOO-year floods and delineated the 100-year floodplain through Paonia.
This study utilized the u.s. Army Corps of Engineers Report on technical
information with additional cross section data and modifications4

A previous floodplain report on Minnesota Creek prepared by the Colorado
Water Conservation Board (Reference lB) computed 100-year flood elevations

16
