State of Wyoming 1268-DR-WY
Hazard Mitigation Survey Team Report

,
Earthquake Program

The State of Wyoming participates in FEMA's Earthquake Program. The Earthquake Program
has four basic goals directly related to the mitigation of hazards caused by earthquake. They are
to:

. Promote understanding of earthquakes and their effects;
. Work to better identify earthquake risk including the use of a computerized loss-
estimation model called HAZUS. HAZUS will assist states in performing their
hazard analysis and vulnerability assessments;
. Improve earthquake-resistant design and construction techniques;
. Encourage the use of earthquake-safe policies and planning practices.

Dam Safety Program

Wyoming participates in the Dam Safety Program, which is a 100% federally funded program.
Dam Safety funding is used to:

. Improve the safety of non-federal dams;
. Inspect dams and reservoirs that would pose a significant threat to human life and
property in case offailure;
. Encourage owners of high hazard dams to write and exercise emergency response
plans;
. Pay for training state dam safety staff and inspectors.

8
