The
first flood took every bridge on that stream within five miles.
The county put men at work Unmediately constructing a temporary
bridge across the ~orth Fork down in the east end of ~eadow Park
in Order to open up travel on the South St. Vrain. this W3S ready
fOr trav~l in 24 hours. In about thirty minutes after this bridge
was finished along car..e the second flood and down stream went the
bridge also a foot bridge or so that had been hastily put in by
some of our citizens. This happened Thursday afternoon at 5 O'ClOCK.
The county bridge force were again on the job early Friday morning
and at 2:30 had another passable temporary structure completed and
travel opened up through to Estes Park via the south canon.

Sunday evening about 5 o'clock heavy clouds gathered up the
South Fork and SOOn it was apparent that a cloud burst had taken
place about three miles up that stream. A ~an who was caught in
it said it came dOwn 2S a curtain of water dro~ping from the heavens
and four inches of water fell just where he was 1n as many minutes.
This put the south stream higher than it had been during the first
two floods, but fortunately no bridges were carried out over it and
not much damage done to the rOad. The storm soon passed across to
the North canon and that stream was fOr the third time in five
days given the appear2nce of the early Cherry creek floods in Denver.
This carried dOWn stream about half of the temporary bridge also a
foot bridge that had been put in the'second time.

,
i
i
i
!
I
1
,
!

The county force sOon repaired the temporary traffic bridge
early Monday morning and travel commenced again to and from Allens
and Estes Park.

The county forces salvaged one of the railroad company's foot
bridges that went down the first day and put it back in place in
Meadow Park, also put in a temporary vehicle bridge across the
NOrth stream in order that the settlers might get into Lyons from
up that canon.

M~yor Kinc~id and county Commissioner Harry Miller inspected
the NOrth Fork Load l\'C:dncscl,'y. The count.y has begun temporary
repairs to bridges an~ highway, later the State and Federal govern'-
ments will rebuild the highway.

........-
