This
segment is located between Colorado State Highway 224 and Interstate-76.

THE STUDY AREA

PURPOSE AND SCOPE

The lower Clear Creek study area includes that reach of Clear Creek from its
confluence with the South Platte River, west to the Wheat Ridge corporate
limits, at Youngfi e 1 d Street. With in the study area, Cl ear Creek passes
through unincorporated areas of Adams and Jefferson Counties, and the Cities
of Arvada and Wheat Ridge.

The Phase B study, Prel iminary Design, was developed and refined based upon
our Phase B Scope of Services stated in our contract with the Urban Drainage
and Flood Control District, with recommendations resulting from the Phase A
Study (Reference 42), and adoption of the selected alternatives by the
Cities of Wheat Ridge and Arvada, Adans County, and the Urban Drainage and
Flood Control District. Prel iminary designs have been prepared in
sufficient detail to pI an bridge and culvert improvements, channel
mod ifications, and to ident Hy flood hazard areas for fl oodpl ain management
and preservation. The Prel iminary Design plan specifically includes:

The Clear Creek drainage basin, above Golden, Colorado, contains some 400
square miles, with the total basin area above the confluence of the South
Platte River containing a total area of 575 square miles. The drainage
basin boundary is shown in Figure I-I.

. Detailed cost estimates for the proposed improvements.

For purposes of this study, lower Clear Creek has been divided into five
study areas, shown in Figure 11-1 and described in detail in Section II of
this report. The study area contains approximately the lower 12 miles of
the Clear Creek mainstream.

.
