Also,

as stated above, only the open area in the cross section

was considered effective for flow conveyance.

FLOOD HAZARDS

Critical flow occurred at several locations in the water

surface profile computations. Critical depth was assumed

at those sections.

The 100-year flood event is considered by the State and the

District as the flood magnitude for which flood plains should

be designated for regulatory and improvement purposes. The

100-year flood plain limits and water surface profiles are

shown on the Flood Hazard Area Delineation Maps.

As described previously, between 11th Ave. and Stapleton
International Airport, Westerly Creek currently has capacity
for less than a I-year frequency storm event, and there is
little or no flood plain remaining because of the existing
development. Any storm event will cause damage to adjacent
properties (residential and commercial areas). Hazards
associated with a 100-year flood event would include damage
to structures and their contents, traffic interruptions, loss
of crossing structures, and even loss of life.

The I~S-inch pipe with the natural detention pond which exists

immediately south of the runways at Stapleton International

Airport can only contain an S-year or smaller flood event.

Flight schedules could be interrupted by a 100-year flood

event.

Kelly Road Dam is located upstream of the study reach. Based
on our review of Kelly Road Dam according to the State Engineer's
"Plans and Specifications for the Construction of Reservoir
Dams", the present dam structure is a hazard from the standpoint
