with a notch 540 feet long and 11 vertical depth of 4 feet located in
the center of the ogee section. Spillway flows would be directed into
an arroyo which joins Fountain Creek about a mile below the dam. At
spillway crest elevation, the reservoir formed by the dam would be
about five miles long with a surface area of 4,900 acres. The storage
capacity at spillway crest would be 247,000 acre-feet, of whiCh 187,000
acre_feet would be allocated to flood control, 40,000 acre. feet for
sediment retention, and 20,000 acre-feet for recreation. The plan of
the project, sections, and details are shown on Plates 1 through 4.
Engineering features are listed in Table 1.
1. PURPOSE OF ATTACHMgNT.- The purpose of this attachment is to
present engineering features, COStS, and effects of the proposed
Fountain R~servoir Project which would be substituted for the previ-
ously recommended local protection project on Fountain Creek at Pueblo.
Also presented are recommended changes in the plan for the Arkansas
River Channelization Project, Pueblo to Las Animas, and a r~sum~ of
other plans considered on Fountain Creek.
2. REVISIOII OF S&!.ECt'ED PUlfi OF 1I(PRCVgU~11'1'. _ The local protec_
tion project on Fountain Creek, as recommended in the main report,
would be deleted and replaced by a dam and reservoir project on foun-
tain Creek about 1.5 miles upstream from tho city limits of Pueblo.
Operation of the project would control standard project flood flows in
Fountain Creek to safe channel capacity through PueblO and provide a
permanent pool for recreation. The design discharge (lOO-year flood)
of the proposed Arkansas River Channelization Project from pueblo to the
confluence with Apishapa River, a distance of 38 miles, would be re-
duced significantly be regulation of flows On Fountain Creek. lie low
the mouth of Apishapa River, changes in design flows would be negli-
gible. ln the La Junta urban area, the Arkansas River Channelization
design discharge would be reduced from 200,000 c.f.s. to 170,000 c,f.s.,
and concrete channel lining would be deleted froro the project plan.
Plates 1 through 6 depict plans, profiles. and details of Fountain
Darn and Reservoir Piates 7 and S present revised typical section data
