Box 1170 Telluride, CO 81435-1170 Community: San Miguel County, CO Community No.: 080166 104 Dear Ms. Zivian: This responds to a request that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) comment on the effects that a proposed project would have on the effective Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) report for San Miguel County, Colorado and Incorporated Areas (the effective FIRM and FIS report for your community), in accordance with Part 65 of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) regulations. In a letter dated July 17, 2000, you requested that FEMA evaluate the effects that the San Miguel River Corridor Restoration Project would have on the flood hazard information shown on the effective FIRM and FIS report. The San Miguel River Corridor Restoration Project includes: . A sediment detention basin approximately 450 feet upstream of Pinon Street, that will consist of an excavated pond with drop structures at the pond inlets and outlets on the San Miguel River and a grade control structure at the outlet of Bear Creek. The sediment pond will have an excavated volume of approximately 700 cubic yards. . Replacement of the existing Maple Street Bridge by a single 40-foot span auto bridge. . At the upstream of Maple Street and upstream of Pine Street, along the left bank of San Miguel River fill will be placed and banks will be stabilized. . Minor channel realignment will be don~ between Fir Street and Maple Street. . Vortex rock weirs will be installed approximately 150 feet and 350 feet upstream of Pine Street and approximately 50 feet upstream of the Pacific Avenue Footbridge. . Drop structures will also be installed approximately 550 feet upstream of Pine Street, approximately 100 feet downstream of the Pacific Avenue Footbridge and approximately 950 feet upstream of Maple Street. . The whole project reach will be channelized in a step-pool pattern with several concave-bend pools and numerous cover logs and boulder covers will be placed through out the reach. All data required to complete our review ofthis request for a Conditional Letter of Map Revision (CLOMR) were submitted with letters from Mr. C. Gary Wolff, P.E., Senior Engineer, Mussetter Engineering, Inc.; Mr. Lance McDonald, Special Project Manager, Town of Telluride; and The Honorable Amy Levek, Mayor, Town of Telluride. ---..---,.'",.
