<br />Homeowners: <br />Some homeowners in the interface may be protected from loss by fire <br />insurance. For their recognized financial loss, they will be compensated <br />according to their insurance policy. However, not all homeowners are <br />fully insured. And financial reimbursement is not a total solution. <br /> <br />Loss of family treasures, routines and traditions are overwhelming and <br />detract from the quality of life that all seek. The loss of one's home or the <br />surrounding area to fire has been compared to the loss of a family member <br />- irrepwceable. <br /> <br />The Basic Issue: <br />The risks and extra fire protection costs posed by homes in the wildland/ <br />urban interface impacts all citizens of Colorado. The impact is by threats <br />to public areas, unintentional shifts of scarce tax dollars, increased costs, <br />damage to valuable watershed, or increased insurance premiums. The <br />question is not whether to provide fire protection, but rather: Are the <br />increased costs of protecting those who contribute most to the problem <br />allocated fairly? <br /> <br /> <br />14 <br />
