Foothills is a commitment to a continuing high quality environment in the Denver area.
With the growth experienced in the metropolitan area, Foothills is essential to the health,
welfare and safety of the people it serves.

First envisioned in 1955, Foothills was dedicated in 1983 and will provide service well into
the next century. Increasingly recognized as a "state-of-the-art" treatment plane it
incorporates the latest and best technology to assure a safe, clean and dependable water

supply. The high elevation of the plant allows it to supply most of our customers by gravity,
resulting in energy savings since less pumping of treated water is needed. Hydropower
generated at the plant and the dam operates these facilities, with surplus power for sale.

The thin arch, doub.le curvature Strontia Springs Dam is a major, award-winning
engineering achievement. This project in the South Platte Canyon has increased the
recreational potential of the canyon area. The benefits of Foothills, many and varied, will
continue for decades.

Foothills was named one of the "Ten Outstanding Engineering Achievements of 1983",
along with nine other American projects. The awards were presented by the National Society
of Professional Engineers.

Foothills was constructed and completed duringthe administration of Denver Mayor W. H.
McNichols, .Ir. Past Board members serving at that time were Charles F. Brannan, James B.
Kenney, Jr. and D.
