<br />RECOMMENDATIONS: <br /> <br />Develop flood hazard awareness materials for the general public to include the <br />following topics: 1) local emergency warning systems and procedures; 2) flood <br />insurance [need and availability) and 3) instructions and safety information for <br />individuals and families on disaster preparedness. This results from several factors. First, flooding does not occur frequently <br />enough in most communities to be in the forethought of most local officials. <br />Second, personnel turnover is a fundamental reason that local floodplain ad- <br />ministrators are not always educated about the specifics of floodplain manage- <br />ment. Therefore, there is a significant need to provide the means and institu- <br />tional tools for improved access to floodplain management, flood hazard miti- <br />gation and flood insurance information. <br />
