They were actively involved in the Flood of 1999 relief efforls. <br />Immunizations were provided, and Issues involving water testing, communicable dlseue <br />control, de. were addressed. The area is also fortunate to have the ArkaD181 VaDey <br />Ilegkmal Medical Ceuter 81 a resource for medlea1 response. Law enforcemeut <br />responsibilities rest with the appropriate munleipal police departments and Otero County <br />Sheriff's Office. Fire protection and EMS response is available through theindividnal fire <br />proteetioulambulanee districts or serviees. In some case. these departments are <br />cooperative efforts between the fire district and the appropriate munieipaUty. <br /> <br />12, Transportation Resources: <br /> <br />v.s. highway 50 bisects Otero County and serves 81 the primary transportation corridor in <br />the region. In additional, various other state highways provide vehleular aeeess <br />throughout the area. Loeal bus service is provided through Ioeal agendes, wbile intentate <br />travel is available on TNM&O Bnsline. The Burlington Northeru & Santa Fe bandies aD <br />of the railway freight, and passenger service is available through Amtrak.
