Floods have occurred on Cherry Creek and the <br />~!ett~ R!v~r e!the~~h togay flood control dams reduce the potential damage <br />tr~ !!e~g!~~ Se~s~g ~y these streams. A flood control dam is being con- <br />~tr~et~~ e~ ~~er ~,~~~ e~g will thus reduce potential damages from flooding <br />~g~~~~ ~r ~~er ~r~~~, ~!ooging can still occur on these streams and flood- <br />!B% e!~e ee€~r~ ~ e ~~~~~, of other streams in the Denver region. Sand <br />€r~~~~ fe!! Betg €rgg~! W~sterly Creek, Harvard Gulch, Dutch Creek, Sanderson <br />~~!~h! €!~er €rg~~, e~g ~!ttle Dry Creek are just some of the streams which <br />~@r!eq!ee!!Y !!eeg Pert~ of the Denver region. <br />@tr~et~r~~ e~g th~!r eentents located in the flood plain, are damaged <br />!~ ~~~~ wa-Y~, %te~~, v~!e~!ty, duration of flooding, time of day or year in <br />~!eh f!eeg e~~~r~, 4~r?t!on of flooding, length of warning and sediment con- <br />~@~t ~ th@ t!ee~ ~t@r ?r@ factors which influence total flood damages. Some <br />%~~~t~r~~ er~ W~~ etf their foundations by high velocity floodwaters while <br />~~%@r %tr~~t~r~ ~ ~@@~ @!ectrical and mechanical systems repaired or replaced <br />%!~r t!~4!~~, Qth@r %tructures may not be damaged if length of warning is <br />~4~u~t@ ~~ %~@ ~!~g ef f!ood fighting system or flood proofing is available. <br />~@~t ~er t~@ !~r~~t ~tr@ams, the length of warning is usually not long enough <br />~ ~Ml4 ~ tlQQ4 ~!~!~ Q~~upant generally heed warnings to reduce the flood <br />4~~ l'>Qt@I?-,H~J,.. ~l~ 'i@l.ated damages are highly complex and variable and <br />~ %wel1, ~Ij-@ 4!tlf!'<:1M.<t te 1jl@?sure. <br /> <br />1 <br />
