<br />3.3 Summary <br /> <br />Reconnaissance planning is discussed here in terms of a gem:ral methodology or process <br />as displayed in Figure 3.1. The actual design and conduct of a reconnaissance study will depend <br />upon the study objective(s), the size and location of the study area, the type of project envisioned <br />and a number of other considerations. <br /> <br />It should also be noted that reconnaissance studies and fe.asibility studies are not always <br />distinct and separate activities. The reconnaissance investigation (the: formulation and evaluation <br />of a broad range of alternatives) may be the first step in a feasibility investigation. In that case, <br />the guidelines presented in this chapter and in the following chapter should both be utilized to <br />prepare a study plan. <br /> <br />20 <br />
