Zone B:

Areas between the Special Flood Hazard
Areas ar~ the limits or the SOO-year
flood, including areas of the SOO-year
flood plain that are protected from the
IOO-year flood by dike, levee, or other
water control structure; also areas
subject to certain types of IOO-year
shallow flooding where depths are less
than 1.0 foot; and areas subject to 100-
year flooding from sources with drainage
areas less than 1 square mile. Zone B
is not subdivided.

Zone c:

Areas of minimal flooding.

Zone D:

Areas of undetermined, but possible
flood hazard.

The flood elevation differences, Flood Hazard Factors, flood insur-
ance zones, and base flood elevations for each flooding source
studied in detail i~ the county are s~~rized in Table 3.

5.4 Flood Insurance Rate Map Description

The Flood Insurance Rate Map for Eagle :ounty is, for i~surance
purposes, the principal result of the Flood Insurance Study. This
map (published separately) contains the official delineation of
flood insurance zones and base flood elevation lines. Base flood
elevation lines show tte locations of the expected whole-foot
water-surface elevations of the base (laO-year) flood. This map is
developed in accordance with the latest flood insurance map prepa-
ration guidelines pUblished by the Federal EUlergency Management Agency.

6.0 OTHER STUDIES

Flood Insurance Studies have been conducted for the Towns of Eagle,
Gypsum, Minturn, Redcliffr Vail, and Basaltr Colorado (References 19, 20,
21, 22, 23, and 24). All of these towns are contained in Eagle County.
The results of these studies are consistent with the Eagle County Flood
Insurance Study.

In 1978, a Flood Plain Information report (Reference 10) for Roaring
Fork and Fryingpan Rivers at the Town of Basalt was completed for the
Colorado Water Conservation Board. Results of this report were used in
determining flood boundaries and elevations for the Eagle County Flood
Insurance Study.

24
