<br />On December 13, 1977, the results of the study were presented at a <br />final coordination meeting, which was attended by representatives <br />of the study contractor, FIA, the Town of Wellington, and Larimer <br />County. The study was accepted by all parties present at this <br />meeting. Comments from the Colorado Water Conservation Board <br />(CWCB) which affected hydraulic computations have been incorporated <br />into this study. <br /> <br />In 1991, the CWCB requested that information contained in the 1983 <br />SCS study be used to revise the Flood Insurance Study for the Town <br />of Wellington and Larimer County (Reference 1). <br /> <br />2.0 AREA STUDIED <br /> <br />2.1 Scope of Study <br /> <br />. This Flood Insurance S,tudy covers the incorporated areas of the <br />Town of Wellington, Larimer County, Colorado. The a~ea of study is <br />shown on the Vicinity Map (Figure 1). <br /> <br />Floods caused by the overflow of Boxelder Creek and Coal Creek <br />affecting the Town of Wellington were studied in detail. <br /> <br />The areas studied by detailed methods were selected with priority <br />given to all known flood hazards and areas of projected development <br />or proposed construction through 1992. <br /> <br />2.2 Community Description <br /> <br />The Town of Wellington is located <br />County, in northeast Colorado. <br />miles northeast of Fort Coll ins. <br />1970, and grew to a population <br />Census (Reference 3). <br /> <br />in the eastern part of Larimer <br />Wellington is approximately 10 <br />It had a population of 691 in <br />of 1,215, according to the 1980 <br /> <br />Floodplain development in Wellington is residential and commercial, <br />with most of this development occurring in the shallow flooding <br />area of Coal Creek. Boxelder Creek flows southward through the <br />western side of Wellington. Coal Creek flows southerly through <br />Larimer County. The channel ends several miles north of Wellington <br />and the water flows through agricultural fields until it enters the <br />channel in the southeast part of town. For purposes of this study, <br />a stream baseline has been delineated for Coal Creek through <br />Wellington. <br /> <br />2 <br />
