n. Yield or Conservation Storage Optimization

(1) Up to 9 reservoirs (none in tandem with each other) can be
utilized in the routine in a single run to determine different types of
results (storage or yield).

(2) Up to 15 iterations are allowed in trying to draw the reser-
voir to the target reservoir level (usually top of inactive pool) while
determining either the storage required for a given yield or the firm
yield from a given amount of storage.

(3) Critical period can be determined by the program from period
of record data on IN cards and the operation of a single reservoir can be
restricted to the critical period to reduce computer costs.

(4) Critical period can be selected by user by inputing the
starting and ending periods of the flow data.

(5) Tables of Minimum Flow volumes for various reservoir draw-
down durations, along with starting and ending periods can be requested
by the user (see J4.7).

(6) Initial estimates of dependable capacity can be made by the
program based on minimum flow volumes for selected length of drawdown.

(7) The program can determine the amount of seasonally varied
conservation storage to satisfy all specified yields on the project
including hydropower.

(8) The maximum dependable monthly energy requirements and
dependable capacity of a project that can be provided from a specified
power storage can be determined automatically while still meeting all
other project yield requirements.

(9) The maximum dependable desired flow or required flow or
diversion that can be provided from a project from a specified conser-
vation storage can be determined automatically while still meeting all
the other project yield requirements.

(10) All of the yields may be optimized at one time using fixed
ratios between the demands as specified on input cards.

10
