<br />3 <br /> <br />was a precursor to this map analysis, showed that extrapolation of <br />precipitation-elevation relationships to high elevations was simply not <br />appropriate without the ex'istence of good hi[lh-elevation data. <br />The actual method used to develop the new precipitation map <br />therefore consisted of these few steps: 1) Assemble all available <br />precipitation data. 2) Calcul ate and verify monthly, seasonal, and <br />annual precipitation totals. 3) Adjust shorter records and seasonal <br />data to a consistent base period. 4) Plot data points on overlay over <br />original 1931-1960 precipitation map. 5) Adjust isohyets to be <br />consistent with the new data. This procedure, wh'ile outwardly simple, <br />required extensive careful data processi 19. Improvement over the <br />original map is a result of more and better data, not of a more <br />sophisticated method. <br />
