The estimated <br />bydrographs that would have occurred under natural flow conditions <br />in the Platte River basin are also shown on these plates. <br /> <br />15. FLOO)) DAMAGES PREVENTED <br /> <br />a. Federal pro.1ects. Federat flood-control projects in <br />the Platte River basin include the Corps or Engineers' Kell~ <br />Road Detention Dam in Aurora, Colot'ado and Cherry Creek Dam <br />southeast of ' Denver. In Nebraska, Operation "Foresi!',ht" levees, <br />constructed under supervision or the Corps at Scottsblurr and <br />at Bridge:port during the 1971 floo'i emergency, were credited <br />with preventing rlood damages at those communities during the <br />1973 flood on the North Platte River. Bureau or Reclamation <br />projects in Wyoming include Seminoe, Pathrinder, Alcova, Glendo, <br />and Guerns~ Dsms, or which only Glendo has specific flood- <br />control storage. Damage prevention benerits attributed to <br />these projects are described in the following paragraphs. <br /> <br />b. The Kell~ Road Detention Dam provides protection for <br />a 500-acre area; the project is credited with preventing $12,000 <br />in flood damages. Cherry Creek Dam, located on Cherry Creek <br />southeast of Denver, protects abo~t 750 acres along the creek <br />plus another 14,000 acres along tl'\e South Platte River. Dllring <br />the 1973 flood, the project liaS credited with preventing <br />$27,000,000 in flood damages. Operation "Foresight" levees <br />built at Scottsblufr and at Bridgeport in 1971 were credited <br />with preventing damages estimated at $230,000 and $90,000 <br />respectively during the 1973 flooll.. <br /> <br />c.
