<br />pro,ject's total cost is currentlv estimated to be $iJ3,800,000 <br />in Federal funds and $1,550,000 'in non-Federal funds. <br /> <br />(4) Bear S;reek Dam ~d.....~~,ke.' Bear Creek, a left:-ban} <br />tributary of the South Platte River, has been the source of <br />serious floodiO@; in the Denver metropolitan refdon. A pro,ject <br />to control floods on that stream 'wa,s authorized for construct~ion <br />by the Flood Control Act of 1968. The embankment for the dam will <br />be located on Bear 8reek about 8 mnes upstream from its <br />confluence with the South Platte River in Denver. 'rhe reservoir <br />will have a storagE' capacity of 52,000 acre-feet, includinp: <br />26,000 acre-feet for flood cOntrol and 2,1100 acre-feet for <br />sediment control. Construction of the pro,ject was initiated <br />in late 1973' completion is Scheduled for late 19'79. <br /> <br />(5) Castlewood Dam and I.8,ke. The Castlewood Dam and <br />lake was authorized: in 1941 for cO;lStruction on Cherry Creek in <br />Doup:las County about 30 miles south of Denver. At the t:iJne of <br />authorization, the major project features were a dam 1,240 feE't <br />100@; and 212 feet high and a reservoir with a maximum stora~e <br />capac ity of '71,000 acre-feet. Because local suppOrt for the <br />pro,ject was lacking, it was placed in an inactive status. ~'he <br />pro,ject is to be reevaluated, however, as part of the overall <br />basin study titled "Hetropolitan Denver, South Platte River ane: <br />'l'ributaries, Coloraio, Wyoming and Nebraska." This study is <br />beiO@; conducted by the Corps of En~ir:eers' Omaha District Office <br />and is scheduled to be completed in mid-.19'76. <br /> <br />(6) Boulc~er Creek at Boulder. The 1'1006. Control Act <br />of 1950 authorized a flood-<:ontrol pr-;)ject on Boulder Creek at <br />Boulder, Colorado. Due,to lack of local support, however, action <br />on the project was deferred u.ntH 1969, when a flood on Boulder <br />Creek renewed loca.l interest. Reformulation studies were made <br />iurin@; which !!Ore tha.n 50 variations in structural and nonstructural <br />measures suggested by local i,nterests were evaluated. T'Rl <br />economically feasible plans Of improvement, a channel enlargenent <br />project and a levee and flood.wall project, were presented to <br />local interests in February 19'73 for their consideration. <br />Further action on this project hinges on decisions to be made <br />by the local interests. <br /> <br />(7) Bear Creek at "lorrison. 1\ local flood-protection <br />project for '.lorrisc;n, Colorado w8~-;uthorized by tbe Flood Control <br />1\ct of 1941.. The ",lan as authorized provides for en1arf1:in~, <br />straightening, and clearing the Bear Creek channel and for <br />relocatiO@; the downstream end. of Ht.
