st.orm sewer system are too small to carry significant flow. Virtually none
of the existing storm sewers provided within the City are adequate to in-
tercept and convey the runoff generated by the 5,-year frequency s tOI'm. A

summary of the existing storm sewer systems and 1 imiting capacities are

listed in Table 3.

The street curb and gutter system functions as the primary drai nage

system for the urbanized part of Montrose. The streets have val'ious con-

veyance capacities due to varying cross-sections, crown slope, and presence

(or lack) of curb and gutter. Additionally, successive asphalt overlays

over the year's have further 1 imited street carry-ing capacity. These fac-

tors contribute to the need for a largN storm sewer system than otherwise

would be necessary were the street see-cion r'easonably uniform and houses

placed well above the top of the curb.

The street system is generally inadequate to contain the 5-year storm

runoff at a flow depth less than the curb height (6"), which is the standard

basis for design (Reference 1).

A map of the existing storm sewer system is shown in F'igure 3.

Minor Basin Characteristics

~ I

lh~.al:"e.a,LO-\I@r~d,-lly---the .llrb.anc-dl'a~na-ge' anaiYSiS'1~~4:;3('~":~: res;' or /, \", ::J""}
,4.--..---------.-- / \ \/\, '\
_----<lp-pr0*i-ma.:J&l.\l---6. 8 s{j tta-r~-m-i-le.:i.,_ -+!te--bo I1ndar-i-esof-mi-,:rttf'ea' -we-re-t:lehne-d' v' /-
\
-,..---bft5-e-G---G+l-.e-Men-t-- 0 f me. pp i-ll-9--~~e-e-.(I-f-JOea-S-OR<lb-J-.Y--Pf"o.*--i-ma1:~---ttFb~--e'xpaf1~

~-S-il}l1--fu-r--i:t1F'~ffl;ft-t+v-nEH'-theilcs-t-of.-tne-,-Ui+GQ-lllpa-ltgf'€!--R+v-el9-;--..'F-h-i~-
7 hp_ /Ad{f-e~ St.?:.r-vt(l.- uHct of: flu..
