<br />STUDY AREA <br />->---- <br /> <br />The study area has been defined as the City of Montrose" Colorado and <br /> <br />its water service area east of the Uncompahgre River. This area is confin- <br /> <br />ed by Otter Road on the south, approximately Lincoln Road on the north, <br /> <br />and extends east to about road 6700. The lower reach of ,/It he water service <br /> <br /> <br />area, to its confluence with the Uncompahgre River, -is also included in <br /> <br />, <br />. \}'I)I~" <br /> <br />the study. <br /> <br />f. ."\(y..:'J . \':'" <br />~) '~'\"(e (.. <br />>~!. - Vli'- <br /> <br />Major Basin Characteristics <br /> <br />The City of Montrose and its water service area east of the Uncompahgre <br /> <br /> <br />River 1 ie in the lower portions of the basins of three well defined water <br /> <br />courses. These streams are Cedar creek, MontrOSE! Arroyo, and Dry Cedar <br /> <br />Creek. Montrose Arroyo flows through the center of t~ontrose, and is tri- <br />butary to Cedar Creek. Both Cedar Creek and Dry Cedar Creek are tributary <br />to the Uncompahgre River. Cedar Creek flows through and along the northern <br />boundary of the City, while Dry Cedar Creek passes the City near its south- <br /> <br />ern boundary. <br /> <br />The headwaters of Cedar Creek oriqinate in the Cimmarron Ridge area <br /> <br />at an elevation of approximately 9,400 feeL The creek flows in a generally <br /> <br />westerly direction, through the northeastern portion of the City of Montrose <br /> <br />to the Uncompahgre River, at a point approximately three mnes northwest of <br /> <br /> <br />Montrose. The Cedar Creek drainage ba,;in is approximately !i6.3 square miles, <br /> <br />(see Figure 1). <br /> <br />The upper reaches of Montrose Arroyo 1 ie approximately seven miles east <br /> <br />of Montrose at an elevation of approximately 7,500 feet. The stream flows <br /> <br />in a northwesterly direction through the City of Montrose to its confluence <br />with Cedar Creek, immediately northwest of t.he City. The drainage area <br />tributary to Montrose Arroyo is approximately 17.8 square m"iles. <br /> <br />- 9 - <br />
