The <br />treasured tiles of petrified wood that finished a retaining wall are <br />irreplaceable. Landscaping accumulated over many years is wiped out in a brief <br />afternoon. <br />Among those who have suffered losses in the past, fear and tension are <br />still generated by the violent thunderstorms that build up in the mountains <br />during the afternoon. <br />Those living in the mountains choose to do so but along with the beauty of <br />the red cliffs and slopes they must be aware of the danger that can come from <br />those same steep hillsides. Heavy summer rains continue to cause minor street <br />flooding and washing of dirt from gullies. Nature perpetually rearranges the <br />landscapes, as has been done for milleniums in this valley. <br />
