One important job is to make
an itemized list of all your
house's contents and their
condition. Photos of each
room and the outside will
help in figuring claims.
Such an inventory is also
good to have for your fire
or homeowner's insurance
policy. Keep the inventory
and the insurance policy
safe.

K. Helping the Flood Along

Sometimes negligence or improper construction practices make a
flood worse than it has to be. Obstacles deposited or built by
man will block flood waters and cause higher flood heights or
delay drainage of the area. Here are some things you can do to
prevent this:

Prevent junk ardi debris from
plugging culverts and bridges.
Keep your creek and its flood-
plain tidy. Turn litterbugs
and dumpers in to the police.
One grocery store shopping
cart can turn a 24 inch pipe
into a dam. During a flood,
station a couple of people
upstream of bridges and cul-
verts to keep debris from
pUing up.

31
