Geological Survey <br />State Offices <br /> <br />The U.S. Geological Survey <br />(USGS) has existed since <br />1879, carrying out research <br />throughout the country on <br />topography, geology, and <br />mineral and water resources. <br />USGS has a number of inter- <br />ests, including resource con- <br />servation, geologic studies, <br />mapping, and land and water <br />analysis. <br />The USGS provides hydro- <br />logic data for optimum man- <br />agement of the nation's water <br />resources.
