Sewer 1 i ne. <br /> <br />The property owner should also contract with a registered surveyor <br />or engineer to establish the elevation of the finished floor so that <br />flood insurance rates can be reduced. The Federal Insurance Adminis- <br />tration should be contacted to determine the procedures for obtaining <br />the reduced rates. <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />House Raising - Several house movers should be invited to submit <br />bids on the proposed raising. The owner should investigate each <br />mover by obtaining references from previous home owners and, if <br />possible, inspect previous work to determine the capabilities of the <br />mover. <br /> <br />The first phase of raising involves a close inspection of the <br />house and a careful study of the plans for supporting the structure. <br />The more experienced contractors may suggest minor changes in the <br />raising process. Before the raising process begins, the contractor <br />will break the foundation at specified locations, as shown on Figure <br />5, and disconnect the utilities. (If desired, temporary flexible <br />connections can be made if the owner wishes to reside in the <br />structure during the raising process.) <br /> <br />8 <br />
