...

.

.

c

s

M

A

F

Welcome, everyone, to the 2000 Annual Conference of the Colorado Association of Stormwater and
Floodplain Managers. The scenic Fall beauty and fresh mountain air at Steamboat Springs
provides a wonderful respite from the busy office atmosphere, allowing us all to relax a bit for a few
days. The conference allows us to gather at a beautiful setting and discuss issues regarding
floodplain and stormwater management with our peers.

For our 11th annual conference, we selected a theme of "Storming into the New Century", to
recognize the approach of the new millennium, and to reflect on how technology and man's efforts
to deal with flood and stormwater have changed and continue to change. Our keynote speaker, Dr.
Larry Roesner, from Colorado State University, will open the conference with a presentation on a
key issue that has continually evolved over the past 20 years, namely Best Management Practices
(BMP's) for enhancement of stormwater runoff quality.

We have an exciting afternoon program on Wednesday following Dr. Roesner's keynote address
and luncheon_ First, Mark Glidden will host an interactive panel discussion on urban growth
development and f1oodplain/stormwater issues. This will be followed by our ever popular
presentations by the finalists for the CASFM Award for Outstanding Project of the Year, hosted by
John Doerfer.

Thursday is a full day of activities starting with a member breakfast and concurrent technical
sessions. After a box lunch, members can attend either of two workshops, or take a bike trip for the
afternoon_ The day is complete with an evening cocktail session in the exhibit area and our annual
CASFM dinner.

Friday offers concurrent sessions in the morning on Bioengineering Techniques and Flood
Control/Channel Stabilization, with closing remarks before noon_ Gluttons for punishment will be
off to the golf course for the annual fist shaking at Robert Trent Jones (rest-in-peace). We
encourage everyone to stay and enjoy Steamboat Springs for the remaining Labor Day Weekend.

I wolJd like to express my de:epest thanks to the following members who unselfishly devoted their
time during this hectic year to help willh !h.e planning and arrangements for this year's conference.

Jamie Cribbs, Program Chair
Mark Glidden, Hotel, Panei Discussion
John Doerfer, Awards
Doug Williams, Vendors
,John Hunt, Keynote Speaker

Doug Stewart, Registration
Mike Bartusek, Golf Tournament
Doug Trieste, Bike Trip
Mee Smith, Logo Design and Materials
Printmobile, Notebook Printing and Assembly

Special thanks, also, to those who volunteered to be: session moderators, assist with registration,
and coordinate conference activities.

ENJOY THE CONFERENCE! ~

John Pflaum, Conference Cttairrr. .___
Colorado Association ofStormwater IUltI Floodplain Managers
