Existing hydrologic information for Monument Creek contained in the Army Corps of Engineers Flood Plain Information Report for Monument Creek in Colorado Springs (1971), the Flood Insurance Study for the Town of Palmer lake (1978), and the ACE 1976 Hydrologic Investigation for Flood Insurance Studies of EI Paso County and Colorado Springs were reviewed in order to check the results for use in the current FIS for these communities. New hydrology was developed for the reach of Monument Creek from the northern Air Force Academy boundary to the Town of Palmer Lake corporate limits 'due to the absence of any existing hydrologic information. The peak flow rates for the 10-, 50-, 100- and 500-year recurrance intervals were computed using Technical Manual No.1 in the Palmer Lake FIS. The basin data was checked and the computation for peak flow rates were re-evaluated and found to be acceptable. Technical Manual No.1 was also used to compute the peak flow rates for Monument Creek above the AFA, and therefore a good correlation between flow rates was achieved. Table 1 summarizes the recommended peak discharges for use in the ongoing FIS of Monument Creek in EI Paso County. The Palmer Lake FIS has been designated by the Colorado Water Conservation Board and is currently being used for floodplain regulation in this community.
