tit Big Dry Creek Improved Inlet at Interstate 25

The goal of this newly-constructed project is to pass the 1 DO-year storm event flow of Big
Dry Creek beneath Interstate 25, thereby reducing the upstream water surface elevation
which would inundate Westminster's Waste Water Treatment Plant. Improved inlet
techniques were employed to accelerate the flow to pass entirely within the existing 80'
dual-span bridge section. A curvilinear floor slab was utilized for the improved inlet which
transitions into a compound channel designed to carry sediment through the bridge at all
ranges of flow. Looking ahead to when the highway is widened and the bridge has passed
its service life, the bridge span should be wider and still incorporate the improved inlet
concept to efficiently pass flows under the highway. The improved inlet design calculations
are included herein for your information. Seepage flow path and steel sheet piling cutoff
wall calculations are also included for your information.

.

.
