<br />Floods caused by overflow of Tenmile and Meadow Creeks within the <br />c:orporate limits of Frisc:o were studied i II d(~ti1 i 1. <br /> <br />The flooding from Jug Creek was studied by approximate methods. <br /> <br />Approximate analyses were used to study those areas having a low <br />development potential or minimum flood hazards. The scope and <br />methods of study were proposed to and agreed upon by the Federal <br />Insurance Administration and the Town of Frisco. <br /> <br />Those areas studied by detailed methods were chosen with considera- <br />tion given to all proposed construction and forecasted development <br />through 1983. <br /> <br />2.2 Community Description <br /> <br />The Town of Frisco is located in central Summit County, in central <br />Colorado. The town is a small mountain community situated just <br />west of Dillon Reservoir and 30 miles east of Vail, Colorado. <br />According to the 1970 census, the population of Frisco was 471 <br />(Reference 1), and it was estimated to be 1000 in 1978 by the <br />County Planning Department (Reference 2). The principal industry <br />in Frisco is tourism, with many residents employed in recreation- <br />related businesses. <br /> <br />Tenmile Creek flows easterly through Frisco and discharges into <br />Dillon Reservoir. Tenmile Creek at Frisco has a drainage area of <br />approximately 94 square miles, all within Summit County. The <br />western boundary of the basin is formed by the Gore Mountain Range <br />and Vail Pass, while the eastern boundary is the Tenmile Mountain <br />Range. To the south, the basin is bounded by the Continental <br />Divide. Vegetation along the channel through Frisco consists of <br />sparse woods and scattered brush. The channel bed is mostly cobble <br />material with interspersed boulders. <br /> <br />Meadow Creek flows easterly through Frisco into Dillon Reservoir, <br />draining an area of approximately 6 square miles. In Frisco, <br />Meadow Creek is confined mainly to a constructed channel through <br />residential and commercial areas. <br /> <br />Flood plain development in Frisco consists mainly of several condo- <br />minium units along Tenmile Creek. There are virtually no buildings <br />in the flood plain along Meadow and Jug Creeks. <br /> <br />The corporate limits of Frisco include an area of approximately <br />550 acres. Approximately 80 percent of the town has been or is <br />being developed, while the remainder is sparsely wooded. Development <br />consists mainly of private residences and condominiums, with a few <br />private businesses. <br /> <br />Average annual precipitation in Frisco is 16.7 inches (Reference <br />3). As an average, approximately 9 inches of this precipitation <br />is due to snowfall and 8 inches is due to rainfall. Average <br />annual temperature in the area is 350F (Reference 4). <br /> <br />3 <br />
