<br />STUDY AREA DESCRIPTION <br /> <br />St~~ Resch Description <br /> <br />The frenc~ Creek drainage basin is located in the northeast corner <br /> <br />The atudy reach is centered aoout the city of Holyoke, ~th the lower <br />limits extending "bo~t two miles east s.nd about One :nile west or the city <br />(eeeIndexMs.:p,,,late2). <br /> <br />Drainage Baein Characteristics <br /> <br />of the Sta.te in Logan, Sedgwick, and Phi111pa Counties. Its headwaters are <br /> <br />within Logan County about 20 miles west of Ilolyoke. The creek flows in an <br /> <br />The basin divides into tyO eub_basins at the vest edge of Holyoke. <br /> <br />The flood plain of FrenChman Creek within the study reach is rether <br />flat, Which hes encouraged development. Most of the urbanized development <br />within Holyoke borders the south bank of the creek, and with this urbani_ <br />zation, the flOOd hazard to the community will continue to increase unless <br />adeqUate floodplain regulations are adopted. <br /> <br />easterly direction draining into the Re:publican River near Culbertson, <br /> <br />Nebraska (aee Baain Map, plate 1). <br /> <br />The North Fork has a drainage area. of 164 aquare milea.
