15" pond Inlet

A detention pond is proposed west of Carr St. which reduces the
lO-year flood peak which must be conveyed by the downstream facili-
ties. Flows smaller than lO-year floods would be carried through
the park without storage. Larger flows would spillover the em-
bankment between the channel and the pond. The reduction in
peak flows accomplished by this conceptual design are shown.
Maintenance access would be provided by a roadway which would
serve also as a hiker-biker trail. The pond would be compatible
with present plans for a park on the site.

The lO-year flow would be carried underground in 90-inch and l02-

inch pipe, thus eliminating the frequent flooding experienced by

area residents. The proposed conduit would be laid in the exis-

ting open drainage ditch and the ground surface would be regraded.

A new sanitary sewer would be required from Brentwood Street

eastward to collect sewage which presently flows to the sewer

lines in l3th Ave., but which would be blocked by construction

of the 90-inch pipe. Construction adjacent to several existing

structures will require shoring. Maintenance access is available

from l3th Avenue. The peak flow rate reaching the pond in a lOO-

year flood would be reduced, but would exceed the capacity of the

storm sewer and would flow partly as overland flow through the

residential area. Floodproofing of the homes should be considered

by the residents.
