<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Global Positioning System (GPS)-A satellite-based navigation and positioning system that <br />enables horizontal and vertical positions to be determined <br /> <br />Grid-A network ofunifonnly spaced horizontal and perpendicular lines that enclose an area <br />with an associated value assigned. A defined aggregate spatial object. <br /> <br />Hazard-An event or physical condition that has the potential to cause fatalities, injuries, <br />property damage, infrastructure damage, agricultural loss, damage to the environment, <br />interruption of business, and other types of/oss or hann. <br /> <br />Headquarters (HQ) -The FEMA office in Washington, DC. <br /> <br />Horizontal Control-A network of stations of known geographic or grid positions referred <br />to a common horizontal datum, which control the horizontal positions of mapped features <br />with respect to parallels and meridians, or northing and easting grid lines shown on the map. <br /> <br />Hydraulic Analysis-An engineering analysis of a flooding source canied out to provide <br />estimates of the elevations of floods of selected recurrence intervals. <br /> <br />Hydraulic Computer Model-A computer program that uses flood discharge values and <br />floodplain characteristic data to simulate flow conditions and determine flood elevations. <br /> <br />Hydraulic Methodology-Analytical methodology used for assessing the movement and <br />behavior of floodwaters and detennining flood elevations and regulatory floodway data. <br /> <br />Hydrograph-A graph showing stage, flow, velocity, or other properties of water with <br />respect to time. <br /> <br />Hydrologic Analysis- An engineering analysis of a flooding source carried out to establish <br />peak flood discharges and their frequencies of occurrence. <br /> <br />Hydrology-The science encompassing the behavior of water as it occurs in the atmosphere, <br />on the surface of the ground, and underground. <br /> <br />Ice Jam-An accumulation ofice in a stream that reduces the cross-sectional area available to <br />carry streamflow and increases the water-surface elevation of the stream. <br /> <br />Importing-The process of bringing data or software into a dissimilar system. <br /> <br />Initializing-The process of setting program variables to their starting values, commonly <br />zero, at the beginning of a program. <br /> <br />Interior Drainage Systems-Systems associated with levee systems that usually include <br />storage areas, gravity outlets, pumping stations, or a combination thereof <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />TERMS-I5 <br /> <br />CTP Caoper,ltJny <br />Tr'cfmu;,lf <br />Partners <br />
