.

SUSTAINABLE WATERSHEDS - THE LITTLE DRY CREEK EXPERIENCE

ABSTRACT

Mary Kay Provaznik, HDR Engineering
David Lloyd, Urban Drainage and Flood Control District

1998 CASFM Conference, September 30 - October 2, 1998

Over the past 25 years, the Little Dry Creek drainage basin and it's major
tributaries in Arapahoe County have experienced rapid growth. Millions of
dollars, both from the private sector and local govemments, have been expended
in addressing everything from minor streambank stabilization to major
channelization and detention projects to offset the effects of this rapid
urbanization. A look back on what has been accomplished in the area of
"improvements" and how design criteria and public expectations have changed
over the years often times lends a fresh perspective on the value of past
improvements and provides valuable insight into the sustainability of urban
watersheds.

e

e
