Lile, Director ~J? <br />Colorado Water Conservation Boar~ <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />May 13, 1993 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />Flood Risk Update <br /> <br />To keep you actively informed, we will prepare a "Flood Risk <br />Update" periodically during the next 45 days so you are apprised of <br />Colorado's communities at risk from flooding due to this year's <br />abnormally high snowpack and its associated runoff. <br /> <br />The CWCB, in cooperation with the State Engineer'S Office and <br />the Colorado Department of Local Affairs, prepared information in <br />March which alerted many West Slope communities about spring flood <br />potential. The notification offered 1) assistance to local <br />municipalities and counties in identifying flood threatened <br />"trouble spots", and 2) actions to mitigate these problems should <br />the threat of flooding be realized. <br /> <br />During the week of April 19-24, CWCB staff ]llembers along with <br />representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the State <br />Engineer I s Off ice, Colorado Off ice of Emergency Management and <br />local officials performed the flood hazard review at selected <br />locations throughout western Colorado. As a result of that <br />anaylsis, we have identified several locations which warrant <br />monitoring. They are as follows: <br /> <br />- Grand Junction: The Riverside levee system, <br />emergency levees at uranium tailings removal site, <br />and the jetties at Redlands Parkway. <br /> <br />- Dolores: The community's poorly-maintained levee <br />system, <br />
