MITIGA nON <br /> <br />Several communities have implemented or will implement mitigation actions following the 1993 <br />flood season. The following communities made mitigation requests: <br /> <br />The Town of Paonia made emergency repairs to washed-out rock at selected streambank locations <br />in the community and made a request to the CWCB for a reconnaissance investigation for their 1984 flood <br />. i mitigation project. <br /> <br />Mesa County in cooperation with the V.S.D.A. Soil Conservation Service and the CWCB, requested <br />a rock jetty streambank protection project which will provide flood protection to the Rosevale Area. <br /> <br />Gunnison County is preparing to replace the Gothic Bridge on the East River so that the new <br />structure will pass higher future flows. <br /> <br />, <br />: La Plata County has requested a new floodplain information study for selected locations in the <br />county. This will be done on a cost-sharing basis with either the Corps of Engineers or the Soil <br />Conservation Service. <br /> <br />Rifle has requested a mitigation project which includes a trails and open space system along Rifle <br />Creek in an attempt to prohibit further encroachment into the floodplain. <br /> <br />Delta County, in cooperation with the V.S.D.A. Soil Conservation Service and the CWCB, has <br />requested emergency streambank protection for the entire reach of the North Fork of the Gunnison River. <br />~ : Areas of major damage include the Paonia Irrigation Ditch, the Hotchkiss East End Levee System, the <br />Hotchkiss Trailer Park and the Delta County Fairgrounds. <br /> <br />(', <br />!
