Flood proofing <br />There are 36 reaches and 10 classes of alternatives, Each <br />alternative can be put in at many design levels (2, 10, 100 year, <br />etc,). If four levels are considered, there is a theoretical <br />maximum number of 410 = 1,048,576 aHernatives for each reach, <br />This large number of combinations illustrates the need to screen <br />alternatives for the overall project. <br />A more reasonable procedure 'i s to i dent i fy the most promi sing <br />alternatives for each reach or group of reaches taken together. In <br />that manner, the number of alternatives can be managed much better, <br />Table II-3 gives a list of the reaches grouped together for this <br />purpose. A total of six likely dam sites have been identified and <br />the corresponding reaches are labeled accordingly.
