INTRODUCTION

Simons, Li & Associates, Inc. (SLA) is contracted by the Federal

Emergency Management Agency to perform flood insurance studies for the Town of

Estes Park and Larimer County, Colorado. A part of these studies is to

develop the peak flows for the 10-, SO-, 100- and SOO-year recurrence interval

floods for the streams in the study area.

A vicinity map is shown in Figure 1.1 which indicates the streams to be

studied. All of the streams are to be studied by detailed methods. Table 1.1

lists the streams to be studied by community. The study length for each

stream is also included.

Other hydrologic studies are available for the study area. A review of

the existing studies and the methodologies used to determine flood frequency

curves was made in order to coordinate and check the quantities of flows.

The hydrologic analyses involved the collection and review of available

literature, collection and analysis of USGS gage records in the study areas,

comparison of the information, and selection of the peak flows for the spe-

cified recurrence interval floods.
