<br />fences; $330,000 to livestock; and $1,699,000 to other agricultural

<br />comprising $1,590,000 to railway property and $2,044,000 to county,

<br />a. Loaation and extent of areas fZooded.- The damaged area
<br />in the Canadian River Basin is generally limited to the eastern slope
<br />of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the plains between the mllllntains and
<br />the Canadian River, and the floodplain of the Canadian River above
<br />Conch as Reservoir. The damaged area encompasses a total of about 5,000
<br />square miles in the counties of San Miguel, Mora, and Colfax. Most of
<br />tho area is use<.l for livestock pro<.luction which is the principal
<br />industry of the region. Almost all of the 25 communities in the area
<br />(population of about 1,(00) sustained flood damage. The larger com-
<br />munities of Cill'larron, Springer, and Raton also sustained damage; the
<br />floodplains in these three towns are sho..n on plates 19, 20, and 21,
<br />respectively.
