<br />Burcau at Kansas City, KansaS,and fort Worth, Texas, with the U.S.
<br />Geological Survey offices in Santa Fe, Ne... Mexico, Denver, Colorado, and
<br />Ellen...ood, and Topoka, Kansas, for the purpose of exchanging information.
<br />The Albuquerque District kept the Southwostern Division Office, Corps of
<br />Engineers, the Tulsa District, an~ the Chief of Engineers, Department of
<br />the Army, informed of current conditions by tolotype and telephone through-
<br />out thc flood period. The Fourth and fifth Arm)' Headquarters ...ere also
<br />kept informed. Close liaison botween tho Albuquerque District and thc
<br />Office of Emergency Planning was maintained during the flood and post.

<br />3,000 to the Colorado area, and 3,000 to the Canadian River area.

<br />MILITARY EFFORTS

<br />71. GElIERAL.- Military units were of great assistance throughout
<br />the flooded areas. They furnished men and equipment for assistance in
<br />evacuation, flood fighting, and rescue work. Aircraft delivered men and
<br />material to strategic locations and supplied a meanS for aerial reeon.

<br />reconnaissance operations as ...ell as delivery of emergency supplies and
<br />transportation of key personnel.

<br />a. Canadian River EaDin.- Th~ Resident ~ngineer at Conchas
<br />Dam dispatched personnel. on 15 June to in~estigate the source and extent
<br />of the storm of 14 June. Itw.lsfoundthestormhadoecurredovera
<br />sparsely populated 1'<)~ion northwest of Conchas Reservoir. Reports of
<br />heavy rains throughout the upper Can.ld:o.n River wo.tershed continued to
<br />he received during the period IS-IS June. A party of Weather Bureau and
<br />Corps of Engineers personnel was dispatche~ to collect supplementary
<br />precipitation dRtaon 18 June. The impo.ss..bie condition of the roads
<br />precluded travel in the aroa of heavy rain tall and the attempt to collect
<br />data at that time W<lS abandoned. PersonnelfromtheAlbuquerqueOistrlct
<br />were dispatched on 21 June to the upper Canadian River Basin and remained

<br />isohyetal pattern of the storm in this area waS ohtained by Albuquerque

<br />d. Kansas Nationat Ou=d. _ During the period of flooding in
<br />Kansas, the ~ational Guard assi~ed about 120 officers and men to flood
<br />duty. Five helicopters and four light airplanes were provided to assist
<br />in rescuo operations, reconnaissance, communication, o.nd transportation
<br />operations. Alsoprovlded for flood dutY>lcre four five-ton trucks, four
<br />radio trucks, and six jeeps.

<br />e. Ne~ Mezico Nationat Guard._ National Guardsmen assisted In
<br />the evacuation of Springer and Raton, New Mexico, and delivered a portable
<br />water treatment unit fromtheNewMexicoStllteHealthnepartment t o Springer.
<br />~:itional Cuar,lsmen also assisted in general deanup throughout the flooded
<br />areas and delivered fOOd to Sabinoso. An L-20 airplane was provided to aid
<br />~S Guardsmen in the 5earch of the Crow ~reek area for the bodies of flood
<br />victims.
