The Board has also
prepared similar reports for three other subbasins of the Upper Colorado River Basin: the Yampa
River (from Craig, Colorado, downstream 10 Dinosaur National Monument); the White River
(from Rio Blanco Lake downstream to the Utah statcline); and the Gunnison River (from Delta,
Colorado, downstream to its mouth). Figure J on the next page shows the four stream reaches
ofcrilicalhabital in the Uppcr Colorado River Basin. Each of thcsc reports hus becn prepared
to provide local officials with the most curren! approximate floodplain information, to assist them
in thcirlocal floodplain management programs.

This Floodplain Inronnation Report presents the results of a study for the delineation of the 50-
year and IOO-year floodplains on the reach of the Colorado River mainstem from Rifle,Col<Jrado,
dO'WJ\strcam to the Utah slate1inc. It is intended to assist the City of Rifle, the Town of
Parachute, Garfield County, the To".n of DeBeque, the Town of Palisade, the City of Grand
Junction, the City of Fruita and Mesa County.

While the report has been prepared with local floodplain management needs in mind, the CWCB
is aware that this reach of the Colorado River mainstem has b<.-cn designated as critical habitat
for endangercd fish by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Servicc (Service). The Service may choose
to utilize some of the infomHllion in this report for Endangered Sp~'Cics Act purposes, but the
CWCB neither endor~s nur objeds to such uti1i7.ation. The CWeB ha~ endorsed this report for
floodplain management purposcsonIy.

Department of:\"atural Resources
Culuradu Waler CllllSHvaliun Board
Flood Control and Floodplain Managcm,'ntSection
1J\3ShermanStreet,Roomnl
Deo\'er,Colorado8020J

:\'lar"hI995
Re\'isedAlJri11996
