p~esented. These curves are located at the surveyed cross sections
which were not used In computing water surface profiles. The data
presented by these curVes 15 based upon relationships developed f~om
physical characteristics of the respective cross sections and 1973
flood data. A detailed stUdy may ShOw significantly different results.
The flooded area plates show photographs of the flood of May 19n.
The locations of observed high water marks from that flood are also
shown. These plates also show the limits of the lOa-year and 500~year
floods at each cross section as determIned trom the water surface
profiles or elevation-<lischarge curves. In cases where surveyed
cross section information was extended by using U. S. Geological
Survey 7.5 minute quad~angle mapping, an asteriSk (.) denotes that
the I imits of the loo-year and SOO-year f IcodS a~e approximate. The
loca"tlon of these flood limits at points benlSen the cross soctlons
where water surface profIles are presented can be determined by
selecting the proper water surface elevation from the water Surface
profiles and establish that point on the flood plain by su~vey.
Similarly, flood characteristics at points t>etW"fln cross sections
where water surface protiles are no"tpresented can bees"timated by
noting tho elevation dlfferonces botween the desired flood and the
IQ13 f!~ ~~ th~ ~1~vatlon-disch~rS~ cury~~ ~~d ~pplyT~2 t~~~
relationshIps to the flood Characteristics as viewed on the 1973
aerial photos at the desired location. U. S. Geological Survey
quadrangle maps provide valuable information for transferring
relationships.

"
