<br />CITY OF ASPgN <br />FLOOD INSURANCE STUDY <br /> <br />.J INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />1.1 Purpose of Study <br /> <br />The purpose of this Flood Insurance Study is to investigate the <br />existence and sevEHity of flood hazards in thE! City of Aspen, <br />Colorado, and to aid in the administration of the National <br />Flood Insurance Act of 1968 and the Flood Disaster Protection <br />Act of 1973. Initial use of this information will be to <br />convert Aspen to the regula!: progJ:'am of flood insurance by the <br />Federal Emergency Management Agency. :I?urther use of the <br />information will be made by local and regional planners in <br />their efforts to promote sound land use and floodplain <br />development. <br /> <br />1.2 Authority and Acknowledgments <br /> <br />The source of authority for this 1"lood Insurance Study is the <br />National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 and the Flood Disaster <br />Protection Act of 1973. <br /> <br />The hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for this study were <br />performed by Denver Engineering Corporation, for the Federal <br />Emergency Management Agency under Contract No. EMW-C-1184. <br />This work, which was completed in May 1984, cover.ed all <br />significant flooding sources affecting the City of Aspen. <br /> <br />1.3 Coordination <br /> <br />Community base map selection and the! identification of streams <br />requiring detailed study were done in a meeting attended by <br />representatives from the study contractor, the Federal <br />Emergency Management Agency, the Colorado WatE!r ConsE,rvation <br />Board and the City of Aspen on April 20, 1983. <br /> <br />During the course of wo:rk done by the study contractor, flood <br />information was cooz:dinat:<=d \dth th,e Colorado Water <br />Conservation Board, Sacramento District Corps of Engineers and <br />Ci ty of Aspen. <br /> <br />The results of this study were reviewed at a final community <br />cooz:dination meeting held on . Attend ing the <br />meeting were representatives-'c)'r--tl1el'edeJ:al Emergency <br />Management Agency, the study contractor, the Colorado Water <br />Conservation Board and the City. <br /> <br />-1- <br />
